Ouran High Schoo Host Club ep 23
Continuing from the previous episode, this one begins with Kasanoda apologising to Haruhi before fleeing out of the change room. Much to his shock, the twins appear and ask him if he saw it. Because he panics, Kasanoda stammers and keeps changing his answer from saying that he didn’t see anything to saying that he saw on a glance to finally realising that he did see it. Tamaki suddenly turns white upon hearing this confession. Hunny suddenly appears in front of Kasanoda, telling the poor guy that a man who can’t tell the truth is a trash. This traumatises Kasanoda even more because he didn’t expect someone who’s supposed to be a “Lovely Item” to be so scary. Kasanoda eventually calms down and ask the twin if Haruhi really is a woman. The statement sends Tamaki into a shock to the point that he imagines himself as a howling tyrannosaurus. He’s even more shocked when Kasanoda admits that he saw Haruhi wearing only her underwear.
The twins completely lost their temper upon finding out about this and ready to re-enact the bloody climax from Onikakushi arc of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni using a baseball bat and presumably, Kasanoda’s head. Kyouya, however, stops them because he thinks it’s difficult to cover up a crime. The twins wonder how Kyouya can be so calm, asking him to look at Tamaki, who is in extreme shock. After seeing this, Kyouya tells Kasanoda that now it comes to this, they have no choice but to ‘talk’ about it. He explains that due to a minor circumstance, Haruhi had no choice but to conceal the fact that she’s a girl. He admits that they have no right to stop Kasanoda from telling others about this. However, if he does this, Kyouya will unleash Ootori private police on him. Haruhi then comes out of the changing room, asking the Host Club members to stop threatening Kasanoda. She tells the guy that she doesn’t mind if he wants to tell this to others.
Later on that night, Kasanoda refuses to come out of his room or eat his dinner. Tetsuya believes that Kasanoda is troubled by love because when he brings food to Kasanoda’s room, he saw Kasanoda picking flower petals while saying “I like her, I love her”. Kasanoda’s henchmen are surprised to hear this and even more so when they think that the person that Kasanoda is in love with is a man. Meanwhile, Kasanoda is tortured by his own imagination of Haruhi saying words that she said before before eventually deciding to protect Haruhi’s secret. The next day, Kasanoda arrives at the Host Club, surprising all of the female customers. Their surprise, however, turns into excitement when Kasanoda tells them that he’s looking for Haruhi. The girls immediately assume that Kasanoda and Haruhi are involved. Renge suddenly appears out of nowhere on top of her stage and the fangirls immediately ask her if Kasanoda really swings that way.
Kasanoda is shocked to hear this and tries to give them his human blizzard eyes but he fails to do so because his attempt is countered by the moe fire of yaoi fangirls. Just then Haruhi appears carrying a tea for Kasanoda. Kasanoda can’t help himself from blushing when Haruhi sits next to him and pours the tea. The twins become jealous and ask Kyouya to get rid of Kasanoda. Kyouya, however, refuses to do this since Kasanoda promises to protect Haruhi’s secret. Moreover, he attracts their customers’ attention. The twins are not happy with this and decide to send Tamaki to interfere. Unfortunately for them, Tamaki is too shocked to do anything but playing with a toy that Haruhi gets when she bought instant coffee. Because of this the twins tell Tamaki that if this continues, Haruhi will become “Ane-san”, a Yakuza wife. Tamaki is horrified to hear this and snaps out of his depression. He tells Kasanoda that as Haruhi’s ‘father’ he opposes this.
A confused Kasanoda asks Tamaki if he’s really Haruhi’s father. Tamaki stammers and tells him that they are not related by blood but he’s like a father to Haruhi. Kasanoda tells Tamaki that this means he’s not Haruhi’s father, causing Tamaki to suffer from an identity crisis. He starts to wonder why he thinks Haruhi is cute and dear to him if it’s not a fatherly feeling. Why is he worried with the idea of Haruhi being with another man? If he’s not a father, then he has no right to interfere her relationship with another man. Kaoru, who has vested interest in the matter, asks Tamaki if he’s confused because he doesn’t want to destroy their connections as a ‘family’. Unfortunately for Kaoru, Tamaki has no idea what he’s talking about so Kaoru concludes that Tamaki is an idiot. Thankfully for Tamaki, Haruhi tells Kasanoda that Tamaki looks like her father. Tamaki immediately regains his spirit and tells everyone although he’s not Haruhi’s father, he’s similar to her father.
Meanwhile, Kasanoda decides to take the plunge, trying to tell Haruhi that when it comes to her, he…. unfortunately Haruhi dashed his hope by saying that having a friend is nice. Renge and the other fangirls are disappointed by this development and feel sorry for Kasanoda. Even the twins feel sorry for him. In the end, however, Kasanoda gets consolation prize when everyone wants to become his friends. Tamaki then tells Kyouya that when he thinks about Kasanoda’s feelings for Haruhi, his heart ache a little bit. Kyouya tells Tamaki that is strange since Tamaki is supposed to be her ‘father’. Later on, everyone protests when Tamaki wants to take Haruhi to play hide and seek together. On top of a tree, Hunny wonders if it’s okay for Tamaki to not realise his feelings for Haruhi and if any of them will make progress by the time they graduate. Unfortunately Mori has no answer for this. Down in the maze, Tamaki asks the twins not to touch *his* Haruhi. In retaliation, the twins tell Tamaki that Haruhi does not belong to him. Haruhi tells them that she belongs to no one.
